         The baggage handling system of a large international airport is a huge design, far beyond our imagination, Hong Kong Airport T3 uses a 30 km belt conveyor system and 38 km high-speed pallet system. The belt conveyor system uses the ATR automatic barcode identification sorting system and the high-speed pallet system used in the 2.2km underground tunnel of T3A-T3B, which integrates RFID to ensure that baggage is accurately and efficiently transferred.

       The following is a brief introduction to the baggage handling system at Hong Kong Airport.

      (1)  Conveyor belt transfer system(30km)

 

       The whole floor cage is covered with BHS belt conveyor machinery, and the turntable sorter is installed in the channel where the direction needs to be determined. The ATR system is installed on the diverter, the entrance of the automatic sorter and the automatic sorter to read the baggage bar code label. ATR is 360 degrees all-round, to cover the 6 sides of the baggage, ATR reads the baggage bar code to the PLC, PLC and the upper system to communicate, so as to determine the destination of the baggage.

     (2)  High speed transfer system(38km)


     How to transport luggage at high speed between T3A and T3B. The distance between the two is more than two kilometers, and the general conveyor system cannot complete the baggage transmission within the specified time, so more high-end technology is needed to use higher speed conveyor systems. As an alternative to the traditional belt conveyor system, BHS uses a high speed pallet system, installing a four-stage high speed conveyor belt to quickly transport luggage between T3A and T3B. The system allows luggage to travel at 40 kilometers per hour through a 2.2 kilometer underground tunnel, making it from T3A to T3B in less than five minutes.

      (3)  The BHS system must be integrated with the security system, and the system needs to define the communication protocol between the BHS and the security equipment.


      (4)   BHS, through the mechanical and control units described above, is composed of several subsystems according to the business functions: the originating baggage handling system, the arrival baggage handling system, the transit baggage handling system, the bulky baggage handling system, and the pallet recovery system.

    1、First of all, Check-in, the cashier put money on the bar code affixed to the baggage, put the line into the tray, the baggage tray into the conveyor belt.


    2、BHS sends the baggage barcode to the security equipment, and the baggage is X-rayed through the security equipment.


    3、The inspector analyzes the image, gives the inspection conclusion, and informs BHS.


    4、BHS will sort the baggage according to the conclusion of the image inspection, and the baggage with no problems will be shunted into the baggage claim turntable according to the destination route, waiting to be packed and shipped to the aircraft.


    5、The luggage in question enters the next inspection link, T3 is the five-level security check mode, the third level is the CT scanning equipment, the fourth level is the trace detection equipment, and the fifth level is the manual opening of the bag.

         BHS needs to obtain baggage information and flight information through the flight information system to decide where the baggage will go. Data exchange is realized through communication between PLC and host computer.

五、RFID radio frequency identification system
